Round & Round we go- for a world record!
On September 20-21, 2019, Dave will attempt a new world record, to bicycle the farthest distance in 24 hours- entirely within a roundabout! In partnership with Bike Carmel, the record attempt will take place in Carmel, Indiana in conjunction with National Roundabout Week.
Starting at 7pm and continuing for 24 hours, I will ride as many miles as possible circling the roundabout at 131st / Main St. & River Rd. I expect to ride at least 2000 laps of the roundabout!
Carmel is “The Roundabout Capital of America” with more roundabouts than any city in the US. For more information on roundabouts and National Roundabout Week, go to: https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/NRW/.
We’re actively seeking sponsors and volunteers, so please contact us via the contact page or by email IrideforWBR@gmail.com. Sponsorship opportunities are listed in the document and can be made on our fundraising page. Come join us!
LAP OF TAIWAN / 4 POINTS
Closely following the coast of Taiwan, starting from Taichung and proceeding counterclockwise, the ride will cover about 700 miles (1130km) with 35,000 ft (10,700m) of climbing. I will attempt to ride around Taiwan as fast as possible, averaging over 200 miles (320km) per day. Each of the 4 points (westernmost, southernmost, etc.) of the island will be reached along the way. Dates are tentative, but the ride should occur in late 2019 or early 2020.
The planned route is at: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29137357.
2020 and beyond- I plan to eventually visit every SRAM facility globally on a WBR fundraising endurance ride. That will include:
- Lap of Taiwan
- a “Tour de SRAM Europe”
- Chicago to Spearfish, SD (the home of Quarq): draft route on RidewithGPS
- A few others!
Please contact me if you’d like to join or have suggestions on other challenging endurance rides to support World Bicycle Relief.
