Volunteering My Time
Time Well Spent!
Throughout the expedition I will volunteer my own time wherever and however the opportunities present themselves. I will strive to communicate the importance of donating time and money to help the needy. Clean energy, conservation, and education are all areas that deserve our attention. I will attempt to do my part!
Please find activities I am currently volunteering my time with below:
- On Saturday, April 28, Why I Ride will have a booth at the Greening up the Mounatins Festival in Sylva, NC. The street festival on Main Street attracts a few thousand visitors each year and is a great day for scrumptous food, music, crafts, and community information. Why I Ride's booth will have free information on the charities / bicycle touring, have the expedition equipment on display, and accept donations for the charities. If you make it to the festival, please stop by and say hello!
- I will be mentoring Marshall Moritz on his high-school senior project.
- Marshall Moritz, from Philadelphia, PA, will be riding the Natchez Trace with me and a group of other riders in May! Marshall has expressed an interest in Bike and Build and other touring programs. I will work to help educate him on the steps necessary to organize his own charity bicycle tour, like Why I Ride, along with his personal goal to reveal the world of self-contained touring to his classmates and teachers through his project. He has already ridden cross-country last summer and says, "I am dying to get back on the bicycle for another great experience!"
- Check back soon for updates to Marshall's Senior Project Page! For now enjoy more pictures of Marshall on some of his other adventures!

In addition to raising money for the charities, I also will give presentations at schools, churches, and other community centers before, after, and during the journey as the opportunities present themselves. I hope to open a few young eyes and get people to experience the simplest and greatest reward there is – helping people.
