Christian likes to sing, dance, and he loves to go to Birthday parties. You would think he's just another normal ten-year-old boy, he's not. Christian has a rare genetic disorder called Hunters Syndrome or MPS II. This means he is missing an essential enzyme that breaks down a complex body sugar. This sugar is then slowly stored in all the cells of his body causing devastating results. As the Hunter Syndrome progresses it cripples Christians little body until he won't be able to walk, talk, or hear. The storage of the MPS in his brain will cause swelling and brain damage resulting in mental retardation, dementia and eventually death. Christian has an expected life span of 10 to 14 years. This foundation is dedicated to fighting for a cure for MPS. Christian needs your help.
Join my roommate from New Zealand, Kim Senger, on his expedition titled FROZEN FIVE! The Svalbard Skiing Expedition, or SSE for short, is an exciting project developed by a group of like-minded students of the geosciences in order to fulfil their dreams in skiing across the full length of Svalbard, in the norwegian Arctic . This project has many "firsts" to its name, including the first Czech-German-French-Swedish expedition to attempt anything on Svalbard, let alone cross its entire length. So, for now, let us invite you to the world of the polar bear!
Spinning Southward - Brothers Mike and John Logsdon along with good friend Nateon Ajello recently completed a 16,000 mile bike journey and raised over $75,000 for the National Brain Tumor Foundation! In 1996, their mother Jean was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor that took her life in the winter of the same year. To honor their mother's lasting legacy and help those confronting the same illness that eventually took her life, they started Spinning Southward and made a difference in the lives of many people.
Boy Scout Troop 914 in Cullowhee, NC! Many of the skills I use when bicycle touring come from my decade of scouting in Troop 914. Great leaders, an excellent location, and a tight knit community are just a few of the factors that set our troop apart from the rest. I received my Eagle Scout rank from Troop 914 in September, 2000.
Bicycling the Blue Ridge Parkway - This website was started by my friend Paul Gordy who has ridden all 469 miles of this amazing stretch of road each year from 2004. I joined him in 2005 for an epic adventure of just over 50,000 vertical feet of climbing in eight days! He rides every May along with several others. As always, it’s a good time to be had by all.
Fall Hollow Campground- This is the best campground I have ever stayed at hands down! Owners Bill and Kathy Roper are your hospitable hosts and will do everything they can to make your stay of a day, week, or month enjoyable in every aspect. I honestly did not want to leave and promised Bill and Kathy that I will be back through soon enough. Fall Hollow is nestled in the peaceful countryside near Hohenwald, TN and is right off the Natchez Trace Parkway.
